Seeing my eldest son in Crieff is lovely.
He has a big happy family and we laughed and chatted. And we had food – hot food, sitting at a table – already this feels like a luxury! And I slept in a bed with a duvet. Life in a van is great but it certainly makes you very aware of what luxury is. All too soon I set off for Inverness.
I am really going deep into Scotland now and the mountains are enormous.
Again the campsite is clean, tidy and organised and I have a wonderful view over the Ness. I thought I had become quiet tough living ‘up north’ but it is so cold – its the end of June but it could easily be March.
I don’t think I’ll be wearing my shorts!
The caravan next to mine has two tiny bikes on a rack on the car and two tiny little boys running around. I have nothing but admiration for their Mum and Dad – how on earth they manage all that organisation is beyond me.
I am back to the avo wraps and anything else I can find in various bags. I am beginning to think that bringing some left over smelly cheese was not a good idea. My evening walk is one of wonderment; as you know, I come from the Fens, so the mountains here are absolutely spectacular. Walking out is easy (downhill) coming back is a different matter. I practice hill walking on the treadmill but it hasn’t prepared me for this! I try very hard not to appear short of breath as locals walk easily past me.
The toilet block is a fair distance from my pitch – I limit my evening drinks – I’m not keen on nipping out for a wee in the night.
The site is quiet and I sleep well.
